![]() But yeah I don't think they'll address the db performance.I'm just saying don't exclude it just on that. I agree it's slower for larger news groups, but it's ok once it gets the db loaded. The original authors do work on it from time to time, just not regularly. However, the addition of yEnc support and detection of complete binaries were both added after developent ceased and that message was posted. Likewise, it was "unacceptably slow" on the system I used at the time it may be tolerable on today's hardware. And as I said in the sentance right after that, no official development does occur. At the time, there were no plans for further development. ![]() Quote:Originally posted by Zarquon:Coleman: quote:In defense of Gravity, it's not quite abandoned but it's not being worked on heavily anymore since it doesn't exist as a commercial enterprise anymore. This is good for really active groups where that would take a while. Oh yeah, it also has built-in image display for those, ahem, image-heavy newsgroups. Plus there's a little button you can click to take it "offline" to pause a big download, and it resumes at the same spot later on. For binaries, it's really good, handling multipart, yEnc, and other stuff with ease. Originally that was PAN, for Pimp Ass Newsreader, but apparently they're trying to make it more professional now. Newsrover does them faster but I still haven't found anything I liked the interface on as much as Gravity. Also, as I don't know much about the other readers(I've invested in Newsrover so I'm more tied to it) here are features I like about Newsrover:index searching - can interface with the indexes of many major news providers and search the indexes withouth downloading all the headerssome basic features for managing decoded files(easy filing etc)built in PAR/PAR2 support for recovery when missing pieces are foundCRC based duplicate checking database(good pr0n management!) - View image here: -Automated downloads and server limit tracking.I'm sure others have at least some of these features too.Oh, also Newsrover has a special fully functional version available free of cost if you are a subscriber setup(hard coded I think) for their servers. ![]() yEnc) they got added by the original authors. But I agree it can take some time to process newsgroups with large numbers of articles. But when major features were needed to make it continue being viable(i.e. In defense of Gravity, it's not quite abandoned but it's not being worked on heavily anymore since it doesn't exist as a commercial enterprise anymore. ![]()
